Gambling Awareness Initiative

As legal sports betting spreads across the country, companies are increasingly targeting teenagers and young adults. They market gambling as a “fun” and “harmless” way to engage with sports, but we know the reality is far more dangerous. The NCAA reports that 67% of residential college students are betting on sports. While no formal polling has been done at the high school level, anecdotal evidence suggests a significant problem. As educators, we have a critical opportunity—and responsibility—to protect our students from this growing threat. Given the increasing risks associated with sports gambling, it is crucial that schools take proactive steps to educate their students about this issue.

speaking to high school students

Through the Gambling Awareness Initiative, I offer presentations that educate students, faculty, and parents about sports betting. Blending history, economics, psychology, and math, my sessions combine captivating stories with dynamic data visualizations to demonstrate how the sports gambling industry is preying on young Americans. Drawing from the latest research on social and emotional learning, I equip teens with the information they need to understand, manage, and make informed choices about sports betting. Together, we can give our teens the tools to make smarter, safer decisions.
